Dear Parkside Residents and Family Members:

We have great news to share!

The CDC accepted the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation for a booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in certain populations and recommended a booster dose for those in high risk occupational and institutional settings. The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authorization and CDC’s guidance for administering the booster are important steps forward as we work to stay ahead of the virus and keep Americans safe.

This updated interim guidance from CDC allows for millions of Americans who are at highest risk for COVID-19 to receive a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot to help increase their protection, and those categories include our residents and staff.

Pfizer booster vaccinations are becoming available next week for our Parkside residents and staff who were vaccinated at least six months ago.  The first round of vaccination boosters will be administered on Thursday, October 7th.

A Vaccine Information Sheet is included with this letter for your review. We need to obtain consent from each resident or their legal representative as quickly as possible to be prepared to administer the vaccinations next week.

You may send an email providing us with consent to vaccinate your family member, by emailing sparker@bslcc.org.  Please include in your email your full name, resident’s full name, building (Gardens, Parkside or Healthcare Center) or you may call Sybil Parker at (804) 421-5029 with questions about the booster and/or to provide and record your verbal consent.  Please leave a message on this number if you are calling over the weekend or after hours and you will receive a return call.

Your prompt response is appreciated.  If six months have NOT transpired since your last vaccination, we will retain your consent until the six-month period of eligibility.

This additional vaccination is important.  As we have seen, vaccinated individuals do not suffer the serious illness and consequences of COVID-19 infection as experienced by the unvaccinated.  This booster shot will continue to strengthen your loved one’s defenses against the virus and help us move forward in preventing outbreaks in our community.

Thank you,

Morris S. Funk
