Dear Residents and Family Members:

10 weeks ago, I had the difficult task of informing everyone that we had our first case of COVID-19 at Beth Sholom. Today I’m happy to report that there is not a single confirmed case on our campus. Over the past few days, we have tested and retested the last three individuals with positive cases and all three are now negative.  The light at the end of the tunnel is certainly getting brighter. During the last three months, we have dealt with a host of challenges and far too much heartache over the loss of loved ones. Through each of those days I have had the honor of witnessing a team of dedicated professionals who have gone the extra mile to keep our residents as safe as possible. I want to personally thank them for their sacrifices these last 70+ days. I would encourage each of our families to consider making a donation to our COVID-19 Staff Fund so we can recognize their efforts to date.

As I stated earlier, in order to revise our current visiting guidelines, we still need to hit our 28-day milestone without a confirmed case.  If all goes well these next few of weeks, we will start offering scheduled visits in the Gardens which has never had a positive COVID-19 case. The plan is to offer 30-minute scheduled visitation sessions by a single family member that will be supervised by a person on our team to ensure everyone is following proper infection control precautions. If all goes well, we will expand that program over to Parkside and finally to our Healthcare Center at the appropriate time. Given the anticipated demand from our families, we will keep these visits short and expand them if time permits. At the moment, we are waiting on new guidelines from regulators to ensure our plans align with the new recommendations.

I also want to take a moment to thank the many families that have sent encouraging messages and cards to our staff. Your support during this challenging time has lifted our spirits in so many ways.
