Dear Residents and Family Members:

If you recall in my last update, I noted that we had scheduled a Point of Prevalence Survey as part of our efforts to enhance our testing at Beth Sholom. Over the last several days, we tested a total of 144 people (30 residents, 114 staff) and discovered that one resident and one staff member have tested positive. Both cases are in the Healthcare Center.  As with our standard practice, the resident was continued on isolation precautions and the staff member sent home to self-isolate until they are cleared to work again. On a positive note all previously positive residents are now negative.

Over the last month, the number of active COVID cases on our campus (staff and residents) has steadily declined as they recover from the illness. In fact, 20 employees have been cleared to return to work by the Health Department after successfully completing their 14-day quarantine.  Despite strictly following all of the guidelines recommended by COVID experts and the CDC, we continue to see new cases crop up. This speaks to the highly contagious nature of this virus and our resident population.  It also speaks to the need to continue to restrict access to our facility until we can achieve 28 days without a new case to ensure our residents are safe. While some aspects of Virginia may be slowly returning to normal, we will need to be much more cautious in our re-opening plans.

I cannot thank you enough for the outpouring of support you and our extended community have given Beth Sholom! The kind words, donations, meals, gift bags, treats and thank you parades mean more than you can imagine to the morale of our staff who are diligently fighting to eliminate this virus and keep our residents safe and healthy. Unfortunately, this fight is not over, we continue to need your support. For information on ways to help, contact us at Communications@bslcc.org.
