Dear Residents and Family Members:

It’s been a few days since our last update and I have some mixed news to share.  I’m happy to report that eight of our residents have moved from testing positive with COVID-19 to testing negative.  Unfortunately, we do have one new case in the Healthcare Center to report.  The Healthcare Center is still isolating residents and cohorting residents as best we can. We also have a plan in place to retest all staff which we hope to complete in the next day or so.  We are pleased to say that there are no current cases in Parkside or the Gardens Assisted Living Buildings or the Woods Independent Apartments.

This is the first new case in seventeen days which is encouraging news but it will delay our plans to return to normal operations. Based on the guidelines of the health department, an outbreak can be considered “resolved” within a nursing facility is 28 days past the last positive test.  The new case means we start the clock again. As we get closer to our goal, we will have a meeting with the health department and facility leadership to review what has been done, what can be relaxed and what continues to be necessary.  Obviously, the goal is to return as many operations as possible back to normal within the CMS guidelines on visitation and communal activities like dining.

Although the Governor has released his Phase One opening plan, it is important to note that this does not include senior living communities like Beth Sholom. However, we are planning how we might start scheduling supervised visits with family members.  We foresee that these supervised visits will be in small group gatherings of no more than five people meeting outside in one of our courtyards. With summer upon us and temperatures in the 80’s we are hoping our residents and their families can see one another with appropriate social distancing. At the moment, we do not have any firm dates as to when these visits will begin. I know this may be a bit frustrating, but I hope you understand how important it is to keep our residents safe in these trying times.
