Dear Residents and Family Members:

Despite all of our efforts to contain the coronavirus in a single facility, last night we learned that a resident in the memory unit at Parkside has tested positive for COVID-19. I know this is frustrating news to hear and we share that sentiment. Unfortunately, senior living centers across the Commonwealth have been hit hard by this pandemic. We are all following the best practices provided to us by the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health. Our teams remain diligent in adhering to our infection control practices and yet new cases seem to pop up all too frequently.

As a precaution, the memory care wing at Parkside is on isolation. All of the remaining residents in Parkside since the March 12th lockdown have been self-isolating in their rooms. We will start working today with the Henrico County Health Department to develop a testing plan for Parkside residents and employees. Despite what you may be hearing on the news, testing availability is still a challenge.

The team at Beth Sholom remains focused on doing everything we can to protect our residents. As we noted last week, we are in the difficult days of this pandemic. Despite desires to get back to business as usual, Beth Sholom will remain on lockdown for the foreseeable future. The risks of operating any other way are just too high. On the bright side, the number of cases in Virginia appears to be declining, social distancing is helping us control the curve among the general population. We take that as a good sign and remain hopeful that one day soon we too can return to normal and witnesses the joyful reunions many families are so eager to hold.

To stay informed, please continue to check our phone line and website for updates, www.bethsholomliving.org .  If you would like to receive updates by email, contact us at communications@bslcc.org and provide your name, the name of your loved one and the building where they reside.

Please be safe and follow the CDC guidance of social distancing, frequent handwashing and
self-isolation.

Thank you,
Morris S. Funk
